The Author Under the Cupboards

Happy Friday! :)

I hope everyone has had a great week so far. The new work in process is still coming along - I'm currently writing their first smex scene *g* Those are fun to write, but also not so fun because it's not the easiest to get the scene in my head onto the page. But so far, the guys are cooperating, so fingers crossed they continue to smex it up the way I want them to.

In other writing-related news, I have officially relocated back out to the garage. Yeah, odd place to write, but it's the most peaceful place in the house. I adore hubby, but he has the 'wall of sound' thing going on with the computer games and TV. Not always so conducive to getting the muse grooving when my muse is rather partial to peace and quiet (and she's easily distracted - a TV show comes on and she's all 'ooh! Top Chef Masters!'). In the winter it gets damn cold in the garage, and even my space heater doesn't do the trick when it gets below freezing, so I move to the basement. But I'm not as productive down there, so as soon as it warms up in the spring, I relocate.

See - here's my current little home for the evenings. Very posh, let me tell you, but the muse likes it a lot out there so I'm not arguing with her. And yes, those are cupboards right above my 'desk'. Luckily I'm on the short side, so I fit under there nicely. lol

  1. Very posh indeed. I think you need some carpet like in my garage. Yes, I vacuum my garage. Hey, it makes it a little cozier in the winter, especially on little feet!

Mmmm, good smexing is going around lately. Seems every author I've talked to in the past couple days is coming off a vicariously orgamsic session with their protags. :)

  2. My goodness. Somehow, that just isn't where I pictured you writing steamy m/m Regency romances!

  3. I agree with Devon... those smexy scenes are definitely going around. I just finished one on my current WIP - and those boys did a fine job, let me tell you! lol...

Looks like a comfy, out of the way place to write... Too bad mine is filled with man-stuff. :)

Here's hoping those boys keep talking to ya!

  4. LOL. Nice work area! You tell Jasper and Nate to behave...or is that don't behave!

  5. Hey, at least you have spot! I'd kill for one!

I'm eagerly, very impatiently waiting for your next release...

  6. Carpet is a very good idea, Devon. I could get a rug for my little space under the cupboards and it wouldn't feel quite so garage-ie. LOL

LOL, Chris. Yeah, I don't usually equate a garage with sex (too dirty in garages), but the muse clearly likes it dirty ;)

Hey Martha - Congrats on finishing the fab smex scene in your WIP! I got hubby one of those rubbermaid sheds for the backyard, and he moved a bunch of yard stuff out there. Though I do need to find a new place for the recycle bin - every time I push back my chair, I hit the darn thing.

  7. Thanks, Shawn! And the boys the message ;)

Hey Lissa - I just claimed a space in the garage and moved the old crap elsewhere (didn't ask anyone's opinion, just moved stuff). And now that I'm out there, I have squatter's rights and refuse to allow hubby to dump anything near my 'office'. lol

  8. LOL..hey if the muse likes it ;)

My hubs is a computer programmer and when he works from home he loves to work in the garage. Something about it makes the work flow :)

  9. Hi Mandi! It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one out there who likes to work in the garage. :) Now I don't feel quite so...odd. LOL

  10. Ava, I'm glad that you're writing is going well, but be careful. I know that if my workspace were in the garage under those cabinets, I would have already given myself a concussion or two!

  11. Hey Eyre - thanks, but the warning is a little too late. My skull has already been introduced to the bottom edge of the cupboard, on more than one occassion. LOL I have a hard head, but wood is harder...the cupboard, I was referring to the cupboard, you pervs! LOL

  12. Maybe you should upgrade your writing space with a little brain cushioning there... It might even be tax deductible! ;)

  13. LOL! Probably would be tax deductible. I could lump it in with 'office' supplies, because I sure as heck wouldn't want to line item it out as 'brain cushioning' - $9.95. "Yes Mr. Auditor, it's a legitimate expense, you see...'

  14. Ava, if it works and your muse likes it then oh HECK Yeah, you need to keep it up... seriously!

And posh is not the first word that occurred to me: spartan and utilitarian leapt to mind. *grin* But then, that may be why it works so well, nothing to distract.

  15. Hey Kathy! - the 'no distractions' thing is defintely key. There isn't anything out here but me, the laptop and the cars. No hubby to chat with, no TV to get sucked in to. Heck, I caught myself actually watching Tori and Dean, Home Sweet Hollywood the other day. :-O I rarely watch TV during the spring, summer and fall, but come winter...I know when every bad reality show is on. LOL. Though in my defense, I drew the line at watching Tool Academy with hubby...all right, I watched 1 episode *hangs head in shame*

  16. I agree with your muse hon - peace and quiet does it everytime..

Can you imagine if you had a house full of boys... you'd be writing next door..

all you need now is an ottoman to put your feet up on..

You keep the muse happy and she will have you pumping out those books..

    Happy week hon..

  17. Hi E.H. - yeah, I'd totally be living next door if I had a house full of boys. LOL. And an ottoman - ooh! I need one of those. And a big comfy leather recliner. sigh...that would be really nice :)
