Strong storms blew thru here last night and as a result, I have no power. According to the power company, it’s supposed to be up later tonight (fingers crossed). Hubby’s got his gas powered generator going (he was really tweaked he could finally use it – we’ve had it for over a year) and I have 5 critical things plugged into it. The fridge, rechargeable camping lantern, Pretty, my iPhone, and the fish tank. The fish tank was hubby’s doing – apparently the kidlet’s 2 goldfish (Goldie #1 and Goldie #2) outrank the TV or a fan. It’s supposed to hit 90 degrees here today, so soon the fish are going to have to do without their little waterfall filter.
In addition to having the forethought to purchase a gas powered generator, hubby earned even more BJ points today by surrendering his wireless card to me. *g* Who needs power from the power company? I have my laptop, my phone, a wireless connection, and cold cans of diet coke. Oh, and he took the kidlet to my mom’s house for the day (she has power). He’s so awesome! I will admit, I keep turning on switches in the house. And yes, I have that ½ second of ‘huh? Why isn't the garbage disposal working?’ before I remember – yep, the power is out.
Since I have a quiet house for the next few hours, I’m going to work on His Client. Later tonight or tomorrow, I’ll get the post up for Convincing Arthur. I had planned to write it last night, but got distracted by the whole power being out thing.
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
I hope the power comes on soon! Sounds like it'll get really, really warm otherwise.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I have "The Bare Necessities" stuck in my head... ;)
I've offered up a few prayers to the power company gods. Hopefully it will come on soon. The fish have given up their waterfall filter, so it's not too hot in house yet.
ReplyDeleteNow I have that song stuck in my head, too. :)
He's def earned multiple BJs, lol
ReplyDeleteOh yes! ;) But I haven't informed him of that yet. Figure I'll let it be a pleasant surprise, else he's call in his bj markers when I'm not in the mood. LOL
ReplyDeletePoor Ava! We're always losing electricity, too! I don't know what we'd do without our generator either. I'd have to plug the fan in though. Whew! It's almost a hundred here, so the fish would have to suffer a while! LOL!
ReplyDeleteUgh, I feel for you. A few years back, most of NY had a black out. It-was-horrible! It was mid-summer and the temp had to be in the nineties. My daughter was only a few months old and because the heat was too much for her, she couldn't sleep and all she did was cry. Unlike you we had no backup, yeah, what a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the power back soon. Meanwhile, enjoy the quiet while you can ;)
Hi Andi - almost 100? ugh! The fish are sans-filter now, and they seem okay. It's actually nice in the house since I closed all the windows earlier. So far, not so bad. I called the power company and they are still claiming later tonight, so at least they haven't moved out the time.
ReplyDeleteHey Barbara - I'm definitely enjoying the quiet. A blackout with a baby? Oh, I feel for you! I was like 7 mths prego when we had our last really big outage that lasted a couple days. We had no backup then, it was summer, and I was not a happy prego chick. lol
Those storms were something, eh? Our power was out for a while but came back on around 4:30-5am this morning.
ReplyDeleteHow'd the writing go today?
:) Em
Hi Em - You're so lucky your power came on before dawn. I was hoping for that, but nope. :(
ReplyDeleteThe writing has been going very well today. Reached the 30,000 word mark! It includes a couple thousand words worth of notes for the last 2 chapters, but still, 30k. :D
And the power came back on!!! I love you, power company.
I hate losing power. And in the summer, ugh!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it's back now!!
Hi Lily - And the power has stayed on! Whenever there's an outage, I'm always warry when the power 1st comes back on. Even will wait to turn on the AC. But so far, so good. ....oh, I hope I haven't just jinxed myself. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your power has returned! Hubby sounds like a great guy--worrying about the fishies and giving you his wireless card. He'd definitely be racking up BJ points in my house!
ReplyDeleteHey Eyre - it's so nice to have power again. I'm sure in a few days I'll be taking it for granted again, but for now, I'm just happy to be able to flick on a light switch and have the light come on. lol. And oh yeah, he racked up the points yesterday ;)
